Balancing Growth & Nature: Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan

Commissioned by the NSW Government, the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan is one of Australia’s largest and most ambitious strategic conservation initiatives. Developed to guide rapid growth across Western Sydney, the plan needed to clearly communicate why it mattered, addressing public concern, mitigating fear, and building confidence among local communities, particularly around the protection of native flora, fauna and critical koala habitats.

The challenge was translating a complex, policy-heavy framework into communication that reassured stakeholders while demonstrating how growth and conservation could coexist.

To support this, I developed two flagship animations that brought the plan to life through clear, accessible storytelling. The films visualised how urban expansion and environmental protection could work hand-in-hand, reducing confusion and helping build trust in the intent and safeguards of the plan. Shorter cut-down versions were created for social media, extending reach and impact while ensuring consistent messaging across channels.
